FAQs

  • An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a tax advisor who holds a unique credential authorized by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. EAs specialize in managing tax arrangements for businesses or private entities. Their expertise covers a wide range of tax-related subjects, including income, estate, gift, payroll, levies, returns, inheritance, non-profit, and retirement taxes. Once an EA passes the qualifying exam, the federal government recognizes them as tax specialists. Their responsibilities include representing clients in tax audits, appeals, and collections, as well as providing tax advice and assisting with tax return filing.

  • Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) are state-licensed accountants who can provide accounting services to taxpayers. They handle accounting, auditing, financial planning, and more for businesses, individuals, and other organizations. Unlike EAs, who are approved by the federal government, CPAs receive approval at the state level. If you need specialized expertise in tax matters or representation before the IRS, an EA may be the right choice.

  • Yes, CPAs are authorized to perform audits, reviews, and compilations of financial statements. They can issue audit opinions and provide assurance on financial information. EAs do not have this authority. They focus primarily on tax matters, representation, and tax return preparation.
